Girls Inc. Bash Dash 2008
To support M, E and I did the Girls Inc. of Memphis 5k this past Saturday! We came in last place! Someone had to do it- and we did it with pride and hillarity! We even had our own police escort! :) Unfortunately we both forgot our sunglasses AND our sunscreen so we were a little pink at the end of the walk!

I lurve Andrew Lloyd Webber and have never seen his hit musical "Cats". But as of tomorrow I will not be able to say that anymore. I just found out that a friend has extra tickets- thanks Meg- and I get to go see it at the beautiful Memphis Orpheum! So tune in to see if I get kicked out for singing along!

Worship
Why you should fall to your knees and worship a librarian
Ok, sure. We’ve all got our little preconceived notions about who librarians are and what they do.
Many people think of librarians as diminutive civil servants, scuttling about “Sssh-ing” people and stamping things. Well, think again buster.
Librarians have degrees. They go to graduate school for Information Science and become masters of data systems and human/computer interaction. Librarians can catalog anything from an onion to a dog’s ear. They could catalog you.
Librarians wield unfathomable power. With a flip of the wrist they can hide your dissertation behind piles of old Field and Stream magazines. They can find data for your term paper that you never knew existed. They may even point you toward new and appropriate subject headings.
People become librarians because they know too much. Their knowledge extends beyond mere categories. They cannot be confined to disciplines. Librarians are all-knowing and all-seeing. They bring order to chaos. They bring wisdom and culture to the masses. They preserve every aspect of human knowledge. Librarians rule. And they will kick the crap out of anyone who says otherwise.

Whatever
today I missed the carnival games because I had to work.
today my stomach hurt for like the third week in a row.
today I was bored out of mind.
today the freaky he/she customer asked for help on the typewriter and I lied and said I didn't know how to use it!
today I wish Whit was still here so I could go over to her house, sit on her couch and read magazines and watch movies.
today I wish Ellie was here so she could take me out for a drink.
today I wish my Dad was still alive.
today I wish someone would take the GRE for me because I'm awful at standardized tests!
today I wish the sun would come out-- it's about to storm.
today I thought about what it would have been like if I had actually gone to class in college.
today I decided that I needed to start blogging again.

Markie's Married

So momma and I drove to Knoxville and attended the wedding of Mark and Elizabeth! It was wonderful! The rehearsal dinner was at the World's Fair site at a lovely place called the Foundry. http://www.foundonfair.com/ It was really nice! I especially loved the balloon bride and groom! How creative. The next day the ceremony was at Elizabeth's home church- Central Baptist Church of Fountain City. It was lovely! Mark was beaming, I was crying and Elizabeth looked gorgeous! I pulled it together long enough to read one of the scriptures and then cried some more. I was sooo lucky to have Whitney and Michelle there too! And can you believe it, none of the three of us remembered to take pictures! So the pictures here are from the photographer's website. Go visit it: http://hope-photo.blogspot.com/ . They were fantastic and the photos are beautiful.

Me.... Now.

SO a lot has happened since my last blog---way back in July!
Sadie and Mr. Incredible are loving Colorado! We hate them. Max gets to go to work with Sadie. And momma still won't let me get a dog. I don't understand.
I have changed libraries. I am now on the other side of town. Actually, I am split between to libraries. I LOVE THEM! I am now a children's services library assistant. What does this mean? I am now in charge of children's programming instead of teen programming. So all that young adult lit I've been reading and trying to catch up on--- yea, now I have to go back and get in kids mode. I had my first story time last week. Whew. I had 40 third graders come to the library. I gave them a quick tour of the library and then read about 4 stories to them. They were precious! Yes, I said it- precious! SO cute! A couple of them sat on the floor and sucked their thumbs while I read stories to them. The pic above--- one of the books I read to them. The story time theme was: Problems and Solutions!
Ok, there is so much more, but I need to do some work. More later.
OH!!!! And I'm going to walk the St. Jude half marathon in December!

Ch Ch Changes....
So it has been a while since I posted. Work has been crazy... by the way, anybody want to hire me? I have a B.A. in Journalism, Public Relations! My best friend Sadie and her husband Mr. Incredible packed up and moved to Aspen. Yes, Aspen! As in Colorado! 1 dog, 2 cats, 2 cars and a moving van. Packed up and gone! It happened so fast that it doesn't seem real. So here is my pictorial goodbye to them. Their last hour or so in Memphis, in their home, before they hit the open road...
Max... the wonder dog!!!
Mr. I and Sadie in the front yard...
Sadie taking apart the lovely lamp...
Merlin & Dobby preparing for their car ride...

Mr. I packing up the last little bits in Harriet...
The final hug .... and kiss on the back steps...
Miss you!

My friends called him Lurch!

To most of my friends, my Dad was a large man. Most of them, and all three of us children, had to look way up when he was talking to us. Not just, tall, but he was a large, thick man. He came from very hearty stock. One side was from the hard-labored people of South Dakota (we think that they were Nordic people-maybe- both grandparents were orphans). On the other, the hard working farm families of Mississippi. I never met his Dad. My grandfather died at the age of 52, before my parents were even married. My mom only has sparse memories of him. Though she says that he was an intimidating man. But, back to Lurch. On June 16, 2007, my Dd would have been 60 years young. He died in 1998, at the age of 51 from cancer. His father also had cancer. He was the oldest of four children. He has two sisters and a brother. They all live here in the Memphis area along with my grandmother, who this year, turned 85 (as a side note- her mother lived past 100!)!
I am the oldest of my parents' three children. My sister is two years younger, my brother, 5 years younger. My parents were married for over 20 years when Daddy died. I never knew any two people who loved one another more. If I can't have that type of relationship with a man, I'd rather not be married. They were cute together, but caring and sweet. Fun, yet parental. They expected a lot from us, but didn't push too hard.
My Dad was firm, but a big teddy bear. It was important that we always tried our best. Because of him, all three of us children were very involved in sports. In fact, it was while I was playing softball that he came up with the lovely and affectionate name of Nerdine! How horrifying! We have all three grown up- yes some more than others (I'm talking about myself Erlay!) and are now adults. But on this, the year of his 60th year, I Promise to try harder, to do better, and to be a better person. For Lurchy!
